Yevgeniy Timoshenko wins APT Macau

Yevgeniy Timoshenko, a twenty years old player from the United States of Ukrainian descent has made history by winning the APT Macau, the largest poker tournament in Asia held at the StarWorld Galaxy Hotel and Casino.

The biggest event in Asia brought a total of 257 players from all over the world, including a few dozen online poker players who qualified through online satellites at PartyPoker.com, DafaPoker, PKR Poker, Titan Poker, BodogLife Poker, JBet Poker, Virgin Poker, PaddyPowerPoker and PokerTrillion. The event featured a $1.5 million guaranteed prize pool tournament as well as a $500,000 guaranteed first prize.

Ukrainian descent Yevgeniy Timoshenko won his first major poker event and the $500,000 first prize, while Joon Hee Yeah from South Korea finished in second place, securing a $250,000 pay check for his participation. The third place was Rober Karlian from Thailand, who won $126,000

The main event also featured some of the most renamed professional poker players in the world including the legendary Doyle Brunson, World Series of Poker bracelet winner Johnny Chan, Todd Brunson, Liz Lieu, J.C Tran, Kenny Tran, John Juanda, Nam Le, Quinn Do, Steve Sung, David 'Chino' Rheems and APT Manila champion David Saab.

The 2008 APT Macau event also set a record number of attendances at the Galaxy StarWorld. The large field of players resulted in the addition of eight more tables, several high tech and eight air purifying units to keep the poker room fresh and cool.

"Adding eight tables to the APT poker room may not sound like a big move to the well established western poker community but you have to remember that this is Macau where baccarat is king. Poker is in its infancy - this is a significant step forward and further evidence of the growth and potential in this market." said Tom Hall, CEO of AsianLogic.

The next stop for the APT will be Seoul, South Korea, however, the organization hasn’t revealed any official dates yet. More information about the APT Seoul official schedule will be posted in the following weeks.
