WSOP Circuit Event - Harrah's Atlantic City brings over 1000 players for Event #1
- 12-7-2009
After a highly successful event in Lake Tahoe, the 2009/2010 World Series of Poker Circuit Events moved to Atlantic City last Friday, December 4th for the first in a series of 17 events held at Harrah's Resort .
The first event brought 1,056 players as well as hundreds of spectators to Harrah's Resort. However, a large percentage of the 1,056 player field was eliminated on the first day of action. Day two resumed on Saturday at 1:00 pm with only 99 players. The final table kicked off just before 10:00 pm. Event #1 was won by Dante Magtoto, who busted the 2008 champ Massoud Nikjouian in the final heads up to pocket the $61,459 prize and his first WSOP Circuit Event ring.
Besides the first event, Day 1 also featured the annual Philly vs. New York World Series of Poker Showdown, sponsored by ESPN Radio 950 Philadelphia and ESPN Radio 1050 New York. The event gathered poker players from the two cities against each another, adding to a long list of cross-town rivalries. Philadelphia saw their hopes for redemption shattered when Robert Ricci, a divorce lawyer representing New York took down the event.
Harrah's Resort Atlantic City is the fourth stop of the 2009/2010 WSOP Circuit Events. The tournament series will continue through December 20th and will play a total of 17 events with buy ins ranging from $230 to $5150, as well as nightly (single-day) satellites running at 3 pm and 7pm. The 2009/2010 WSOP Circuit will play a total of 11 events, culminating at Harrah's New Orleans in May, 2010.
