WPT removes the Borgata Poker Classic from Season VII

Officials from both the WPT and Borgata have confirmed that the Borgata Poker Classic, also called “Winter Open”, has been taken out from World Poker Tour Season VII schedule. But even when the popular poker tournament is no longer an official World Poker Tour event; the Poker Classic will run from January 25th to 29th, 2009. Players can also take part in the Winter Open Super Satellite held on Sunday, December 7th, and play for one of the $20,000 prize package which includes a $3,200 buy-in to the Borgata Poker Open Main Event as well as $16,800 in cash.

The WPT Season VII will resume on December 13th, 2008 with the popular Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic Main Event held at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas. The $15,000 buy-in event will run for six days and will award the winner with an entry into the $25,000 WPT Championship, scheduled at the Bellagio on April, 2009. The qualification events begin tomorrow with a $540 No Limit Hold’em tournament starting at 2:00 pm. A series of other satellite events will also take place between Saturday and December 11th with buy-ins ranging from $1,590 to $5,180.

Right after the Five Diamond World Poker Classic, the WPT Season VII will continue with the Southern Poker Championship. The event held at the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi, is scheduled to run from January 14th-17th and will feature a $10,000 buy-in. Satellites for this event are programmed to kick off on January 2nd, 2009 at 4:00 pm.
