Will Fry Wins Budapest EPT
- 11-3-2008
British
player Will Fry from
The day started when Ciprian Hrisca opened for sixty thousand, only to get called by Zoltan Toth. The flop was 7-6-2, inducing a check-raise from Toth which was called. The turn was another check-call. Finally, on the river of the ace of spades, there was check-check with the Romanian taking the pot with Ah 10d. Martin Jacobsen subsequently doubled up when his K-K was looked up by Alacqua's radically inferior J- 9 of hearts. The flop brought Qd -10d-2d-8d and the river was 7. This was the double-up of Martin Jacobsn. Jonny Lodden of Norway was subsequently eliminated in eighth place for €53,200 when he opened for fifty-five thousand, and got called by Zoltan Toth and Jacobsen. The flop brought Jd-8s-2d and a three-way all-in that was won by Martin Jacobsen's 10d-7d when the turn and the river brought 7h-9c, beating Toth's Ad-Kd and Lodden's King Kong (K-K). With this hand, Martin doubled up to almost 2 million chips and captured the chip lead from Hrisca. Toth was subsequently eliminated in 7th place for €78,736 when he shoved all-in with 6-2 and was looked up by the Q-10 of Alacqa, which held up on the board 8-4-3-Q-3. Iverson then captured a big pot when he called in the small blind and Danish chip leader Jacobsen bet out $30K on a 5-4-6 flop, only to get check-raised by Iverson to eighty-five thousand, then re-raised to $230K. He was called and then check-called again $110,000 on the 9c turn. The river brought a 10c and Iverson bet $175 K, prompting a fold from Jacobsen, who probably had a straight of flush draw of some kind.ÂÂ
Gino Alacqua was eliminated in sixth place for €100,016, when he went all-in and was called by Hrisca and Iverson. They checked-down a board of Jh-8s-10h-Js-9h, only to reveal an A-A for Iverson, A-Q for Hrisca, and A -10 for Alacqua. Hrisca thus won a large pot and chip lead. Next, Marino Serenelli was eliminated in fifth won €127,680 when he raised-called one-hundred thirty fiver thousand bet from Fry, and then check-called ninety-thousand bet from Fry on the flop, and all-in on the turn, to reveal a board of 7-Q-6-2-7 which Fry took down with his J-6. Iversen was next eliminated in fourth for €153,216 when his all-in was called by the pocket eights of Fry and 9-7 suited proved no match for it on a board of 5d-Kc-10s-7h-6c. Martin Jacobsen was next eliminated in third place for €197,904 when he checked the limp of Hrisca, and checked the flop, then check-called one-hundred thousand and an all-in on the river to reveal his two pair with 8-10 badly trailing the flush of Hrisca with 10 2 of h on a board of 6h-Kh-3c-8h-Ks. It was down to heads-up with Ciprian Hrisca having the massive chip lead with 3.4 million against Fry's 1.85 million. The final hand pitted Hrisca's A-6 vs. Fry's J-J, the board brought Qs-6c-10d-Kc-Qc and no help for Hrisca. Hrisca won second place and €342,608, leaving Fry the victor with his €595,839 prize and boasting rights to the title of Budepest EPT Champion.
