Where's the fire?

I have seen tons and tons of players act way too quickly, and what most players do not know is that acting quickly and without thinking can reveal important information about you. Now, most online poker sites offer time and time banks for a reason. Unless you’re playing while you’re running away from zombies, you have to take time to plan each of your moves, a player that denotes desperation or anxiety is also an easy prey for players who are willing to take the time and read that kind of behavioral patterns.  You won't get anywhere in poker if you make decisions without thinking. Poker is more than just playing the cards, it's more about anticipating what your opponent is planning to do, why he or she would do it and when they will do it, and trust me, figuring that out takes time.

So here is something I will do while playing online. I try to limit my time to act within 10 - 12 seconds, no matter if I am folding, calling, raising or going all in. There are several reasons for doing this. First off, if you take the exact same time (more or less) to make an action, it will be more difficult for players to read you or figure out of your impulsiveness take you to play fast during the good hands and no so fast during mediocre hands. Another reason is that when players get impatient, they will act quickly giving you a read on them. When poker players get impatient, they begin to play bad, such as calling hands pre flop they should not just because they are bored. Poker is a psychological game, getting people to reveal their game style is vital and one way to do this is to take time to make an action. Now I don't mean you should request time every hand and then use up every last second, but take time and get on their nerves.

Overall, online poker sites offer different time limits for a reason. Take advantage of them and use them in your favor, but be careful and try not to become a turtle, simply take your time to analyze what you’re doing and how the rest of the players at your table react. Good Luck at the poker tables!
