One of the oldest wedding chapels in Las Vegas a will reopen to the public next weekend at the Clark County Heritage Museum. Guests attending the event will have the chance to see a piece of Las Vegas history and celebrate with a block party featuring live music, giveaways and free souvenir photos for any couple who got married there.
The vintage chapel opened in 1966 as the All Religions Wedding Chapel before it was renamed the Candlelight Wedding Chapel. For more than 30 years, the chapel stood on Las Vegas Strip, across the street from Circus Circus Hotel and Casino, and north from the Riviera, where it served thousands of couples, including dozens of celebrities such Bette Midler, Michael Caine, Whoopi Goldberg, Barry White and Clayton Moore (the Lone Ranger).ÂÂ
The property closed in 2003, when the land was sold for the Fontainebleau project. Candlelight's owner, Gordon Gust, who operated the business for more than 3 decades, bought the building and donated it to Clark County. The chapel was moved in 2007 to the Heritage Museum on Boulder Highway, where it was completely restored and renovated thanks to the Nevada Commission on Cultural Affairs and Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
The historic chapel will now feature an exhibit portraying the history of Las Vegas wedding industry. The opening event is scheduled on Saturday, Noember 14th from 6:00 - 9:00 PM. Admission is free.
