Venetian sues TV producer Merv Adelson over "The Real Deal"

The Venetian Resort and Casino in Las Vegas has filed a lawsuit last week in Clark County District Court against TV producer Merv Adelson alleging that the company was mismanaged after things didn't work out as expected with the production of the "The Real Deal!'' show. Representatives of the Venetian claim that Adelson owes the Las Vegas Hotel $1 million paid in advanced to lease the show and about $68,000 in interest. According to the lawsuit, Adelson personally guaranteed payment in an agreement signed before the show started its production in Las Vegas.

Adelson, who for years owned and managed Lorimar Telepictures, responsible for shows such as "Dallas," "Falcon Crest," "Eight is Enough," "The Waltons" and "Knots Landing", said that the Venetian broke its $1 million commitment when it suddenly ceased the show’s production.

However, the lawsuit states exactly the opposite, saying that Adelson “failed to continuously conduct the production and subsequently stopped production, thereby breaching the lease." The Venetian legal team is also accusing Adelson of "misrepresentations, concealment, fraud and deceit"; in addition, the resort claims that Adelson also refused its accounting team to conduct an audit on the show's books and other records.

“The Real Deal” was an original format that combined poker, humor and technology in a fast-paced game show featuring some famous poker professionals playing against audience members for a chance to win $1 million. The show made its debut in October, 2008 and was hosted comedian Paul Rodriguez. The Real Deal was suddenly cancelled after only eight weeks running at the Venetian Showroom.
