Vanessa Selbst wins NAPT Mohegan Sun Main Event

25 year old law student and avid poker pro Vanessa Selbst has won the North American Poker Tour Mohegan Sun Main Event, defeating a field of 715 players to take the title and the $750,000 first place prize.

The final table featured chip leader Mike Beasley (4.985.000), Vanessa Selbst (4.545.000), Michael Woods on (2.950.000), Alistar Melville (2.940.000), Cliff Josephy (1.940.000), Derek Raymond (1.545.000), Jonathan Aguiar (1.535.000) and Scott Seiver (1.125.000).
First to go was Jonathan Aguiar, eliminated by Michael Woods. Several hands later, Cliff Josephy was sent home in seventh place by Derek Raymond, who ended up leaving the table in sixth position. Next eliminations Canadian amateur player Alistar Melville (5th), Scott Seiver (4th) and Mike Woods (3rd). Selbst entered heads-up play holding a 6-1 chip advantage over Mike Beasley and needed only twp hands to secure her thir major title and the $750.000 first prize.
In the final hand, Beasley moved all in preflop with Q-10 and Selbst made the call with A-8. The board was dealt K-6-3-7-8 and Selbst made a pair to win the tournament and the $750.000 prize, bringing her career tournament earnings to over $1,670,000. ÂÂ
The 2010 NAPT Mohegan Sun will continue today with the $25,000 high roller bounty tournament beginning at 12:00 PM EDT. The inaugural PokerStars.net North American Poker Tour TV broadcasts will begin on ESPN 2 on Monday, April 19th, at 10 p.m. The first season will air a total of 16 episodes, with two episodes being broadcast each Monday night for five weeks. The final six episodes are set to air in the summer.
