UB.com puts 2010 Aruba Poker Classic on hold
- 3-10-2010
UB.com has confirmed that the site is putting its annual Aruba Poker Classic tournament on hold for 2010 to focus on new plans that will increase its presence at major live events and expand its online tournament series.
UB.com's plans for 2010 include developing a monthly $500.000 Guaranteed Tournament with the possibility of increasing the prize to one million-dollars; creating more pro-related competitions; and running two yearly UBOC instead of an annual event.
UBOC is UB.com's signature online poker tournament series that entered its fourth year in January. This year's UBOC was UB.com's most successful online poker championship series in its over 10-year history. The 12-day poker series featured two $1 million Guaranteed Events, a number of promotions that awarded players of all stake levels with extra prizes, and over $4 million in guaranteed prizes. Both $1 million guaranteed events attracted a record number of players, inflating the prize pool to over $1.5 million.
"It is with great regret that we are announcing that the Aruba event will not run this year but 2010 is going to be an exciting year for UB and its players. Over the last year, we have been redefining the UB brand in every way. We love the Aruba Poker Classic event but we think we can do a lot more for our players by investing in new events and rewards." said Paul Leggett, Chief Operations Officer of Tokwiro, owner and operator of UB.com.
Leggett added that UB.com will increase its presence at major events by offering players more access to the world's top poker tournaments like the World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour events through ongoing online poker satellites. Players will also have major WSOP incentives and additional loyalty benefits for top earning customers.
"I, for one, am excited about what this shift in focus means for UB and what this will add to the experience for our players." commented poker professional Joe Sebok.
Additional details on UB.com's future plans will be posted to the site's poker blog, linked to on the UB poker room.
