The World Series of Beer Pong VI kicks off New Year at Flamingo Las Vegas

The World Series of Beer Pong, the longest-running organized beer pong tournament in the world, will return to Las Vegas in January for its annual World Championship event, which is set to take place from January 1-5, 2011 at the Flamingo Las Vegas.

Last year, the annual Las Vegas event drew over 900 participants from 45 states, five Canadian provinces and six countries. The 2011 tournament is expected to attract a range of teams from Las Vegas reached as far as Ireland and Guam to take on two-year defending champion beer pong team “Smashing Time.”

Each team is guaranteed 12 games over two days. Approximately one third of the field moving to the finals on the third day. In an effort to even the playing field and give novices the best possible chance for a shot at the prize money, tournament at this year’s will feature a double-elimination round.

Prelims will take place on the first two days of the event (January 1st and 2nd). Each team will play 6 games per day (for a total of 12 games) during prelims. After each game in prelims, a scorecard must be filled in and signed by a member of each team. At the conclusion of prelims, all teams will be ranked, first by number of wins, and then by "Total Cup Differential". The top128 teams in the prelims round will qualify for the finals running on the third day of the event (January 3rd), where they will have the chance to compete for $65.000 in prizes.

Rules for Beer Pong are really simple. In one variation of the game, two teams stand at opposite ends of an 8-foot long table, where ten 16-ounce cups are each filled with roughly 2 ounces of liquid. The cups are placed in a bowling-pin formation, and each team member takes turns tossing ping pong balls at their opponent's cups. If a ball goes into a cup, the cup is removed from the game. The first team to eliminate all of its opponent's cups wins.  At the WSOBP, six of the ten cups in the formation are filled with beer, and four are filled with water.

“If you’re an avid beer pong player or just started playing this fun and exciting sport, WSOBP is a not-for-miss event. There is so much excitement in Las Vegas with the kickoff of the New Year, when you throw at a time, 000 to win beer pong on top of that, the excitement, camaraderie and competition is really indescribable.”  said co-founder WSOBP Billy Gaines.
