The Unpredictable Player
- 11-18-2007
Becoming predictable in poker is the final nail in your bankroll coffin. This is why it’s important to mix up the way you play. Diversity is key to being successful in poker, especially if you plan to make your way up to the higher limit tables.
Everyone has tells, some people are better at masking them than others, but as humans there’s a lot that we’re not consciously aware of. A solid strategy then, is learning how to interpret tells and being able to respond accordingly. By applying careful attention and adjusting the way you play, you can capitalize on unpredictability.
Experienced poker players are usually very keen on picking and dissecting their opponents’ tells; the best way to counter this is to focus outward and adapting the way you play from this perspective.
Always know the players you are up against. Poker is not always about your cards. Watch your opponent's every move and focus on how he/she bets every hand so that you can get to know this player inside and out. Pretty soon you will develop the ability to notice the big picture patterns that allow you to dominate players in any poker tournament.
