The Chat Box
- 6-2-2008
In every online poker room, a chat box is
offered as an extra feature to keep all players in contact and to discuss aspects
of the game or simply to make comments during a session. There are many
ways to utilize the chat box, often; online poker players speak useless words
into the chat to generate discussion or to upset and distract other players. However,
smart players know when to use the chat box, for example, when if you know
another player is on tilt, the chat box can easily be used to stir up
emotions. All is fair in love and war... right?ÂÂ
Anytime I play in online poker rooms, I often tend to stay as far away from the chat box as possible. Whenever I get hooked on it, it’s like an addiction, I simply cannot stop typing. "Hey you fromEngland …do you like soccer?" I
often send to players from the United
Kingdom …see how easily it is to get off topic?ÂÂ
Some players use the chat box to not only stir up emotions, but also to get selective information off other players. One time a player titled, and wrote viciously, "I hate when people check raise me!"...“Well thanks bud for giving away some information!†I thought.
The chat box does justice for many; and vice versa, it harms players. Some players love it, whereas others cannot stand its existence. If you’re a bad chat box player, and constantly reveal information that could harm your game and leave your pockets empty, then my best advice it to mute yourself and ignore all the comments and messages showing in the chat box. But if you’re capable enough to stand other people’s comments and feel that you need the interaction during the game, then simply use the chatbox responsibly and try not to upset anyone, use it to comment the game or to get some information about the players, but be polite and do not use insults, racial or sexual remarks to infuriate players, you can get banned from the site and in any case, no one likes to play with an idiot. Remember, poker has an important psychological aspect, but there's also a difference between using a strategy to get information about the players and simply being irritating and annoying.
