This December 6th, tens of thousands of runners will flood The Las Vegas Strip on their way to the finish line of the Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon & Half Marathon powered by Zappos.com. This year marks the first that both the northbound and southbound lanes of The Strip will be closed to vehicles, as a way to accommodate the massive number of runners for the debut of the new course.
The Competitor Group is in charge of organizing the Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon & Half Marathon and expect around 20,000 participants for the musical event this December.
"Never before have both sides of the strip been closed for the race," said Adam Zocks, G.M. of the Las Vegas event. "This is a world-class course that will attract elite and amateur athletes while providing a fun-filled tour of the vibrant attractions that make Las Vegas the international destination it has become."
The 2009 Las Vegas Marathon & Half Marathon will start in front of Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino and continue south for about a half-mile before making a u-turn and heading back north. At around mile 7.5, the will turn around and head back south with half marathoners finishing at Mandalay Bay.
The marathon runners will head west on Twain Ave., then south onto Rainbow, followed by a loop on W. Hacienda Ave. The Las Vegas marathon will finish with a loop behind The Luxor, before finishing at Mandalay Bay.
The 2009 Las Vegas Marathon & Half Marathon will feature the usual entertainment such as the Running Elvi, run-through wedding chapels, live bands, cheerleaders and much more.
The Las Vegas Marathon 2009 is a great chance to experience the beauty of The Strip, with the lights and energy of Sin City making it all the more memorable. ÂÂ
