Teaching the Lunchroom

Online PokerI am a senior in high school and sometimes go to lunch seventh period. By this time, everyone is just chilling' and ready to throw cards down. Some do magic, others play random games such as high cards, or go fish. Recently I was eating while I noticed the "African American" kids were playing a very loud, and lucrative game called spades. I know how to play spades: both high and low. It’s fun but overall its pure luck.  What ever cards you get are the cards you play.  Some strategy is used, but unless you rig the deck, or false deal, it’s a coin flip to determine the winner.

Anyway, I know some of the kids, so I walked over to check out what all the noise was about. "Get off my nuts one kid screams and throws a card (2 Diamonds) in the other ones face . "That’s 7 books and we win"
It was rather funny. So I asked Rodney: dude, have you ever heard of Texas Hold’em poker?  Simply, the kids all look up and say:  the one on ESPN with all the white dudes’ n stuff, right??  I just nod and smile. Let the teaching begin.

To make a long story short: NL Hold’em is now a luncheon favorite. Even though it’s not on the menu, it happens every single day in that 7th period lunch. They don’t play for money, but moreover "props".  Bluffs are shown literally every time one attempts one. It is truly funny and good stuff.  They even bring chip stacks to get small games going. Sure the spade game exists, but isn’t a little variety worth while.
And that was that.
