While sports betting might not be quite as popular as online poker rooms and casinos, the concept of betting on the player's favorite NFL teams and all manner of other types of sporting events is fairly common, as the traditional method of sports betting has been kept alive since the beginning of the era of sporting events in the United States. Everybody knows that in the last years, sport betting companies had big problems with the law and U.S regulations, some of them where shut down as in the Bet On Sports case. In the earliest days of the activity of sports betting, these types of wagers would have been the sole domain of a specific set of individuals and would usually have been illicitly run by some member of the local organized crime ring. While this type of activity may have given sports betting a somewhat rough reputation with the public, it is in fact a very common method of gaming and gambling on the web as well as in the traditional gaming establishments that allow these types of activities. As more and more Internet users discover the ability to bet on their favorite sports teams to win, it becomes fairly clear that there is no end of individuals willing to take advantage of the ability to put their money where their mouth is and back up their favorite team.

One of the reasons for the popularity of sports betting is the ability to determine what teams have a strong chance of winning and which teams do not. This method of wagering is far more dependable and predictable than simply gambling on the outcome of cards, dice or other random numbers and events.
