Sports Betting and its roll in sports scandals.

Placing bets on sports events is one of the most popular things to do among gamblers. Many celebrities and famous people are doing it as if it was part of their daily routine. I find betting on sports is alright on occasions such as the Kentucky Derby, however, sportsbetting is quickly spinning out of control. This is setting a bad example for upcoming youth, causing debts, and controversy all around the world of sports.
Tim Donaghy admitted to betting on over 100 NBA basketball games in past seasons. These are the types of things that anger die hard sports fans! No matter what is said, the result of any of those 100 basketball games could have been altered if Donaghy was not the referee. This is the only scandal that has been publicly exposed, but I’m sure there are many sports scandals caused by sports betting. All sports officials have the ability to alter a professional sporting event because of a bet placed on the side.

Sports betting has had an affect all the way to the teenagers of today. It is not good when you have high school kids taking bets on Super Bowl, NBA finals, and the World Series just because they see adults and athletes doing it on the television. Sports betting and its negative exposure is having a huge negative impact on our youth, and is allowing under aged gambling to become a more frequent occurrence.
The bottom line is that sports betting should be kept strictly to people that are strictly fans or are not involved in the sport. The commissioners of these professional leagues should create stricter rules for sports betting. Appropriate action should be taken to clean up our American sports from sports betting scandals and to end under aged gambling.
