Shark Reef Aquarium at the Mandalay Bay Hotel acquires deadly lizard.

A Komodo dragon arrived at the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. With a terrifying reputation and approximately 80punds and 60 serrated teeth, toxic saliva and razor-sharp claws, the fearsome Komodo Dragon was delivered to Shark Reef Aquarium at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino from the Miami Metro Zoo last week as part of the Shark Reef Aquarium's eighth anniversary celebration and renovations. This is the first time that a Komodo Dragon is brought to Nevada.

Native from the Indonesian Archipelago, the Komodo Dragon is the deadliest of all big lizards, its saliva contains about 50 kinds of microbes and bacteria that causes a septicemia or blood infection that rapidly spreads in the blood torrent and kills the prey. There are only 75 dragons in the U.S. and Canada and 3,000-5,000 in the whole wild, according to Shark Reef officials. The endangered is on permanent exhibition since last Friday, the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay is open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Tickets are $15.95 for adults and $10.95 for children.

“He is just an incredible regal and unflappable animal that has an air about him that really transfers,” said Shark Reef curator Jack Jewell.
