Popular musical productions say farewell to Las Vegas Strip
Last weekend marked the end of three of the most popular musical shows on the Las Vegas Strip, but even when one of the longest running shows in Vegas officially closed the curtain for the last time, two of them still have the possibility to open somewhere else in the near future.
As it was reported by WDIAV, the famous ABBA-based musical Mamma Mia! ended its run at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino after almost six years running in Las Vegas and more than 2,200 shows performed. Mamma Mia! final show begun at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 4th, and was followed by a cast party in where actors and singers celebrated the show’s success and spent time sharing with fans and producers. Mamma Mia! will be replaced by Walt Disney’s Musical “The Lionâ€Â, which according to Mandalay Bay’s executives, will make its debut in April, 2009 after the necessary works to redesign the theater are over.
“Stomp Out Loud,†which ran for almost two years and presented over 600 performances at the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino, also presented its last performance at the Planet Hollywood yesterday night. Several weeks ago, the live entertainment company, BASE Entertainment released a statement explaining its decision to close the show and the possibility to relocate it in a “more intimate venue elsewhere on the Strip.†The production inspired by the famous Broadway musical ensemble will be replaced with PEEPSHOW, a sexy and new Burlesque show starring the former Spice Girl Mel B. and TV celebrity Kelly Monaco, scheduled to open in April, 2009.
Creator and producer Nicole Durr presented her sophisticated music and dance extravaganza "Raw Talent Live", for the last time on Sunday night. The 75-minute high-energy experience featuring interactive live performances, original music and exclusive, high-tech video illusions, made its debut at the Sahara Hotel and Casino in August, 2008. However, it’s been rumored that Durr is working on a revamped version of the show especially for her new multimillion-dollar Las Vegas nightclub scheduled to open its doors at the Palazzo Resort and Casino in April, 2009.
