PokerStars.com is pleased to announce that a new high profile enrollment to its team of ambassadors and poker players, this time, the online poker site has stated that National Hockey League (NHL) idol and ex- Toronto Maple Leafs' captain Mats Sundin will be joining Team PokerStars to get involved in live and online poker games as part of his new online poker ambassador job.
The 37-year-old Olympic champion star will begin playing online under the pseudonym ``MatsSundin'' in both online and live tournaments, including the PokerStars European Poker Tour kicking off next week in Barcelona, Spain.
Sundin began his career playing for The Quebec Nordiques before jumping to the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs, which by the way is currently sponsored by PokerStars. Sundin has successfully achieved many records as a professional hockey player, including being the first player to score 400 goals playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs and player with the most overtime goals in the league. He has also played with the Swedish national team in a series of international events, winning 7 Winter Olympics medals and five World Championships.
``I have always enjoyed playing poker, and partnering with Poker Stars gives me the opportunity to challenge myself and explore the full potential of my game. Learning from and playing against some of the best poker players in the world won't be easy, but I believe the fighting spirit I've developed as a hockey pro will really help me at the tables. I am very proud to become an ambassador for PokerStars. It allows me to fulfil my personal ambition of working with charities around the world and I will be donating 100 percent of the money I earn from playing poker to charity. For me, the combination of excitement and challenge in poker, plus the potential to support good causes is a win-win situation.'' Sundin said.
Mats has played poker and for many years, and said he is happy to represent the online poker site in a circuit of tournaments that will put his skills on trial once he confronts some of the best players and pros in the world. Sundin also said that all his poker profits will be donated to various charity organizations around the world.
``Mats has gained worldwide recognition as a professional athlete, renowned for his dedication, focus and commitment that have earned him a place at the very top of his profession. This profile is very similar to the qualities we witness among the most successful poker pros on our site and tours. Mats is a charismatic leader and champion, one that we are tremendously proud to have represent PokerStars as a brand ambassador.'' said PokerStars regional marketing manager Micel Holmberg.
PokerStars players will have the chance to defy Mats online in the coming months. Sundin live poker debut will be at the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour in Barcelona, kicking off on September 10th, 2008.
