Online poker site PokerStars.com is launching a new online campaign in support of the National Poker Week (July 19-26), an initiative created by the Poker Players Alliance in its effort to legalize and preserve the game of poker and the rights of American poker players. To encourage online players and poker supporters to join the PPA efforts, PokerStars announced they will hold a series of special PPA Petition Freeroll tournaments created exclusively to reward players signing the document. Prize pools of $3,500 will be awarded to the finishers of the freerolls. Each tournament is limited to 20,000 players and will take place every Saturday between June 27th and July 25th at 14:30 ET.

The National Poker Week was announced by representatives of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) in a press conference held yesterday at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The Poker Week will take place from July 19th to 25th and will serve to promote the game and advocating for the rights of card players in the United States. A team of PPA supporters and poker pros that includes Howard Lederer, Andy Bloch, Linda Johnson and Annie Duke will travel to WashingtonD.C. during National Poker Week to advocate for the cause and take part in some of the other activities on the agenda, including a charity poker tournament to benefit the USO and the WalterReedMedicalCenter. They will also be meeting with members of Congress to discuss several topics including the UIGEA and the legislation introduced by Rep. Barney Frank.
