Poker Pros Theo Jorgensen and Gus Hansen move from the poker table to the boxing ring
- 2-4-2009
Professional Danish poker player, Gus Hansen will switch the poker tables for a boxing ring to face poker champ Theo Jorgensen in a full-fledged boxing match aimed to launch Hansen’s Online Poker TV Channel. The match will feature a 200,000 Danish Kronen purse (Approximately $34.500) and will be aired live on February 21st, 2009 on Gus TV.
The boxing event will be held in Denmark and will mark the launch of Gus TV. Starting on February 21, 2009, Gus TV will allow viewers around the world to watch Hansen in action as he plays live at some of the biggest poker tournaments in the world. In addition, Gus TV will also provide a series of helpful tips and poker strategies and hand-by-hand analysis. Hansen has set up production studios in Denmark and Las Vegas and will travel around the world with a production team in order to provide fans and poker aficionados with fresh content every day.
“Beating up Theo in boxing will be much more enjoyable than winning over him in poker. The sweet taste of victory cannot even be made up in terms of money" says Hansen.
The idea of organizing a boxing match begun in 2008 when Jorgensen got tired of Hansen’s “shadow boxing†celebration every time he won a squash game. However, the World Poker Tour Champ and WPT Walk of Fame inductee is so convinced that he will overtake Jorgensen in the boxing ring that he accepted taking only $25,000 if he wins the fight. Hansen has been preparing for the event by training with professional trainer and Olympic boxing medalist Johnny De Lima.
"Gus was such a pathetic boxer, that I was pretty sure I could beat him. Forget about the money, this is all about the glory. The loser of this fight will definitely hear about it for many years to come." says Jorgensen.
