Poker player and songwriter agrees to share his WSOP winnings with supporters
- 2-8-2010
Aspiring poker player and award-winning songwriter, Jason Mershon, has come up with a unique plan to promote his new song called "Playin' Poker for a Livin'." Mershon, who's planning to enter the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas, has agreed to share 50% of his winnings with the first 15,000 people who buy his song and join him in his promotion at his website (playinpokerforalivin.com). The song has already received dozens of comments from professional poker players and other personalities, who have stated that it's the best song written about poker in years.
"It's just my way of saying 'thank you' to those fans who like my new song. I wrote the song to humorously tell what it's really like being a professional poker player; the sarcastic attitudes of many professional poker players; and the monotony of actually playing poker for a living and grinding out the long hours in a casino card room." says Mershon.
Mershon began his music career working as critic for a Los Angeles newspaper and concert promoter. A few years later, he toured nationally as lead singer of the Box Tops, replacing original lead singer Alex Chilton. Merson also won two awards at the Los Angeles Music Awards in 2006 for his rock musical, "Rock and Roll Heaven" (aka "Heaven Rocks"). While he has been playing poker since the 1980’s in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, it wasn't until the early 2000's when he decided to dedicate more time to his poker career, winning dozens of minor tournaments, as well as “cash" in some major tournaments such as the "Legends of Poker",and the "California State Poker Championships".
"Last year's winner, Joe Cada, ended up winning $8.5 million dollars, and he actually did share 50% of his winnings with his friends who assisted him with the entry fee to enter the tournament. I'm not soliciting for anyone to pay my entry fees as Joe Cada did, but rather just thanking those who purchase the song." added Mershon.
