Poker Hall Of Fame removes Tom Durrrr Dwan from list of nominees

  • 9-9-2009
The Poker Hall of Fame has recently informed that online heads up expert Tom "durrrr" Dwan has been removed from its list of nominees.

"With all due respect to Mr. Dwan, one of the games most exciting young players, he does not currently meet the criteria for Hall of Fame selection. We wish him well and expect he will again be considered once he has ‘stood the test of time,’" said the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council.

A total of 41 players and personalities received nominations for this year's induction. The remaining nine candidates are poker legends Barry Greenstein and “Action” Dan Harrington, Full Tilt pro and November Nine Finalist Phil Ivey, and multiple WSOP Bracelet winners Tom McEvoy, Men Nguyen, Scotty Nguyen, Daniel Negreanu, Erik Seidel and Mike Sexton

Now the 15 living Hall of Fame members and the 15-member media panel will vote for up to three candidates. Any player(s) that gets at least 75% of the votes will automatically gain a spot in the Hall of the Fame.

Selection Criteria for the Hall of Fame is the following:
  • A gambler must have played poker against acknowledged top competition,
  • Played for high stakes,
  • Played consistently well, gained the respect of peers,
  • And stood the test of time.
  • Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.
Since its creation in 1979, the Poker Hall of Fame has inducted a total of 37 players, including last year's inductees Henry Orenstein and Duane "Dewey" Tomko. The 2009 Poker Hall of Fame induction will be announced during a special ceremony scheduled on November 7th at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino. The induction ceremony will take place during the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event final table.
