Poker books: Poker for Dummies
- 5-8-2008
Another great
poker book I recently finished reading is "Poker for Dummies" which is one of
the most popular reference guides on a variety of topics related to the game of
poker. â€ÂPoker for Dummies†is part of the celebrated “For Dummies†series of
books and DVD’s and is a great preparatory book for anyone who wants to star
playing seriously. This book is written by two well known characters in the known
of world of poker: Richard D. Harroch and Lou Krieger. Richard Harroch is an
attorney and avid poker player and has participated in major poker tournaments
including the World Series of Poker. Lou Krieger is the author of two guides to Texas Hold’em
and a columnist for Card Player Magazine. The foreword for this book was
written by WSOP champion Chris Moneymaker.
This is
actually a really informative book and covers many relevant topics related to Hold’em
Poker and some other poker variations. The book is set up in five parts each
covering an area of playing poker useful to players in all levels. Part 1 is
called “How to play the Games†and covers poker basics, seven card Stud,
The poker book covers all you need to know about poker in general, however, don’t think that you will become a pro only by reading this book, but it will certainly is a great introduction for beginners and aficionados. An interesting note on the book is that it was the template for the DVD with the same name starring Chris Moneymaker... the poker player, not an actor for sure. I was surprised by this book as it looked extremely elementary when I  picked it up at the local library and it turned out to be very well written and informative. I would recommend this book for beginning players as it is too basic for intermediate or advanced players.
