Known for his fierce style and for playing massive pots at Full Tilt's High Stake tables, Phil Ivey is considered by many fellow pros and poker experts as one of the most consistent and probably the best all-around poker poker player of his generation.
Born in Riverside, California in 1976, Ivey began his poker career in Atlantic City, where he made his name as a high-stakes player before entering the professional tournament circuit at the age of 23. With only a few months playing professionally, Ivey won his first World Series of Poker Bracelet in 2000, beating more experienced players and defeating Phil Hellmuth and Amarillo Slim in the $2,500 Pot-Limit Omaha event.
Only two years later, Ivey added three more WSOP bracelets to his resume, winning the $1,500 Seven-Card Stud, $2,500 Seven-Card Stud Hi/Lo and $2,000 SHOE events, and taking the World Poker Open event, two Bellagio and two Commerce events and playing several World Poker Tour final tables.
Ivey's incredible run continued in 2005 and 2006, winning his 5th Gold bracelet in the 2005 WSOP $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event, and making two WPT final tables before wining the Monte Carlo Millions tournament and Full Tilt Poker Invitational Live from Monte Carlo in a 24 hours span. Due his amazing record of achievements and final table appearances, Ivey was named Player of the Year in 2006 by the UK Gaming awards, “Bluff Magazine†and “All In Magazineâ€Â.
ÂÂ
In the following years, Phil won an episode of “Poker After Dark†for $120K and made the final table in the 2007 WSOP $5K HORSE event. In 2008, Phil made his 8th appearance at the WPT Championships, where he won his first WPT title. Most recently, Phil won a spot among the the greatest players of all time by taking two WSOP bracelets in the $2.5K No-Limit Deuce-to-Seven Lowball and $2.5K Omaha/Seven-Card Stud Hi/Lo events and by making it to the final table of the Main Event, where he finished in 7th place.
Currently, Ivey is tied in fourth place with Billy Baxter for All-Time Bracelet wins. To date, he has cashed in 36 WSOP events and is second in the world among all-time money winners in tournament poker after Daniel Negreanu with over $12.2 million in career tournament earnings.
