More than 600 players gathered at the Commerce Casino for the World Poker Tour LA Poker Classic Championship. Ivey got into the final table on Thursday having a considerable chip lead over the other five players. The first player leaving the table was Phil Hellmuth; the Poker Brat went all in with A-9 (off suit) against Charles Moore’s A-Q. Hellmuth ended up losing early in the game, taking the 6th place and more than $200.000. The next head rolling on the table was Scott Montgomery’s, who took home $296,860 for his 5th place finish.
Nan Lee also tried his luck going all in with pocket aces against Phil Ivey’s pocket 3’s, but his luck and desire to win another WPT event didn’t last for too long, Ivey got another 3 and sent Lee home with $411,770 and a 4th place finish. Ivey’s aggressive poker game continued and didn’t take too long for him to chase and eliminate Charles Moore, who took the 3rd place and $625,630. Finally Ivey showed why he’s one of the most successful players in the world when he busted Quinn Do. Both players moved all in ending with Ivey’s full house vs. Do’s two pairs. At the end Do won $909,400 and the 2nd place.
Phil Ivey now owns his first WPT title, but undoubtedly not his last.
