- 3-4-2010
Several online sportsbooks have released odds for the 2010 NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship taking place this weekend at Caesars Palace, and professional poker player and 7 time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Ivey and 2009 National Heads-Up Poker champ and 4 time WSOP bracelet winner Huck Seed are overwhelming favorites to win the event.
Ivey, who has cashed in every National Heads-Up Poker Championship since its creation in 2005 and Huck Seed are both listed at 10/1, followed by Chris Ferguson at 13/1. Tom Dwan, Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu and Patrick Antonius are all sitting at 17/1. Other players considered “Favorites†to take this year's Championship are Allen Cunningham, John Juanda and Gus Hansen at 21/1, 2009 runner up Vanessa Rousso, Andy Bloch, David Williams and Annette Obrestad at 26/1.
2009 World Series of Poker Main Event winner Joe Cada, Barry Greenstein, Howard Lederer, Mike Matusow, Jason Mercier, Gabe Kaplan, Eli Ezera, Phil Gordon, Jamie Gold, Gabe Kaplan and 2008 Main Event champ Peter Eastgate are all listed at 40/1. Chris Moneymaker, Mike Sexton, Greg Muller, Joe Haschem and Doyle Brunson have 50/1chances according to the oddmakers.
Some of the long shots to win the event include former World Poker Tour Player of the Year Gavin Smith and former baseball player Orel Hershiser (81/1), as well as Jennifer Tilly and actor Don Cheadle (10/1).
If you want to look past Phil Ivey andHuck Seed, there’s probably a lot of good value to be found in the lower ranks if you’re looking to put down a few dollars in the hopes of a big score.
