Peter Eastgate, a 22-year-old Danish online poker player has become the youngest Main Event champion in the history of the WSOP after defeating Ivan Demidov in the Heads Up action. Eastgate also dethroned Phil Hellmuth's as the youngest player to ever win the WSOP Main Event, a record that remained unbroken for almost 20 years.

Demidov and Eastgate returned to the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino at 10:00 p.m. to decide who was going to claim the World’s title. After a short presentation to honor 2008 WSOP Player of the Year Erick Lindgren, the boxing announcer Michael Buffer encouraged the dealer to initiate the action with a "Let's get ready to shuffle" call just a few minutes before 11:00 p.m. Eastgate came into the heads-up match with more than 80 million in chips vs. Damidov’s 56 million chip stack, however, Demidov quickly balanced the situation by winning several large pots during the first hour of play to capture the chip lead.

Eastgate didn’t give up and battled back to recover the lead, winning a couple of pots after he caught Demidov bluffing a few times. The effort ended up giving Eastgate an advantage of approximately $100 million, and only seven hands later, Eastgate finally secured his first WSOP victory. During the final hand, Eastgate limped from the button and Demidov checked. The flop came K-3-2 and Eastgate bet out $1.25 million and Demidov made the call. The turn was a 4c and Demidov checked, Eastgate raised another $2 million, but this time, Demidov re raised to $4 million and Eastgate called him. The river came 7 and Demidov promptly moved all-in. Eastgate took a few seconds to think and finally called him. Both players showed their cards, Demidov opened a 4-2 for two pair, while the Dane showed an A-5 for an A-5 straight and the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event Title.

The 22 year old online poker player from Odense, Denmark, took the $9.15 million and his first WSOP bracelet, while Demidov, a 27-year-old semi-professional poker player from Russia, got a $5.809.595 check for the second place. Demidov's second place concluded a great tournament year for the player, which includes another final table finish at WSOPE, the Russian player also said that such an amazing experience will definitely help him to improve his game in future tournaments.

"I'm someone who's not going to cry. I'm disappointed, but I'm going to be happy. That's the way it turned out. I learned that I need to improve my hands-on game." Demidov said.

Eastgate celebrated with a multitude of fans and friends from Denmark while they chanted some Danish songs, Eastgate broke a 19-year record established by Phil Hellmuth in 1989, who was 24-years old when he won his first WSOP bracelet.

"My motivation was $9 million and a bracelet, that's what kept me focused." Eastgate said.
