Midas, a ten year old lion was euthanized last week due to complications resulting from eating a ball thrown into his enclosed space from a nearby thrift store. According to the letter sent to the USDA, the zoo's director, Pat Dingle has admitted that unwanted items have been frequently thrown into the animals' enclosures, and that it constitutes a violation of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA). PETA also claims that the zoo's management has repeatedly failed to take steps needed to correct the problem.
