New Online Poker Players
- 5-17-2008
So are you used to playing
poker just in your home game? Or just playing on your occasional trip to Las Vegas ? For those of
you who are trying to make the transition to the online table, there are some
differences you should understand while playing. These are the best tips
for being able to succeed while playing online.
1) BEAWARE - There are much more "donkeys" in the internet poker world than you would expect. You will become extremely frustrated very quickly if you try to play your typical game and you are ousted by donkeys. Poker tournaments such as the World Series of Poker consist of very few and at least everyone is putting in their best effort. Online poker you will always have people that are playing just to burn their own money and time and they think it is the best way to succeed. You should always remain on watch for these types of players if you are looking to avoid any type of bad beat.
2) LESS READS - As you would expect, there will be less reads and tells while playing online. You will not e able to tell if the person hit the flop by seeing if they sat up in their chair and you will not be able to tell if they are holding a pocket pair by if they scratch their nose. Knowing this, you should probably not try to bluff as much as you would in real life. The reason being is you could be called by someone drawing or just simply has no idea what he is doing.
3) TRUST - You should always be careful who you trust online, especially in poker. You never want anyone having any access to your money or password to your various poker accounts. Don't believe anything people say unless you know them on a personal level. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
My transition from my home game to serious online poker was tough, but those were the top three things that helped me become successful online poker player. Do not jump into real money on online sites until your are familiar with it and are confident with the online security of the site. Good luck.
