NBA Star Antoine Walker to face bad check charges in Las Vegas
Former Boston Celtics forward and three time NBA all-star player, Antoine Walker has been ordered to appear later this month in Clark County District Court to face felony bad check charges after failing to meet obligations to repay $900,000 in gambling debts and penalties to three Las Vegas casinos.
The 33-year-old player made a brief appearance today in Las Vegas Justice Court, where the judge ordered him to to appear in state court on June 30th to face trial on felony bad check charges. Walker will remain free without bail until his June 30th arraignment in state court.
Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Melanie Andress-Tobiasson noted that Walker has failed to take pertinent actions to repay debts owed to Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino and the Red Rock Resort, as well as penalties to Clark County.
According to the court case, Walker accumulated close to $1 million in casino debts between July 2008 and January 2009. Last November, Walker agreed to pay $905,050 in restitution, court fees and penalties, and posted a $135,000 bail following an arrest during a celebrity golf tournament in July, 2009. The Las Vegas prosecutor says that Walker still owes at least $770,000. Nevada law treats unpaid markers as bad checks, and they can be turned over to the district attorney for prosecution. The charges could get him probation or up to 12 years in prison.
