Michelin releases 2009 Las Vegas Guide

The 2009 edition of the acclaimed Michelin Guide is out, and Las Vegas has been remarked with several recognitions in the Hotel and Restaurant categories. The 2009 edition of the Michelin Guide Las Vegas features a total of 140 restaurants and 32 hotels. From the list of restaurants reviewed on the guide, thirteen restaurants in Las Vegas received one star (including the new “DJT” at Trump International, “Charlie Trotter's” at the Palazzo, “Nobu” at the Hard Rock Las Vegas, “Alize” at the Palms Resort and Casino, “Aurole” at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino and “Le Cirque” at Bellagio), three restaurants earned two stars (“Alex” at Wynn Las Vegas, “Guy Savoy” at the Caesars Palace, and “Picasso” at the Bellagio) and only one restaurant in Las Vegas received the three star rating (“Joel Robuchon” at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino) The 2009 Michelin Guide Las Vegas also demoted “Thomas Keller's Bouchon” at the Venetian Resort and Casino, which was downgraded from 1 star to no stars this year.

One Michelin star means a very good cuisine in its category; Two Michelin stars mean excellent cuisine, worth a detour and Three Michelin stars mean exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey. Stars are given based on the restaurant's food and menu, the criteria used to rate a restaurant include quality of the products, mastery of flavor and cooking, "personality" of the cuisine, value for the money and consistency between visits. The ratings are compiled by sending unidentified inspectors to restaurants and hotels. The Michelin guide also includes a description of the atmosphere, interior decoration, chef's background, etc. These descriptions are intended exclusively to provide readers with additional information about the establishment.

On the Hotel category, Wynn Las Vegas earned the guide's top honor of five red pavilions, which it shares with eight other hotels in North America. Wynn is the only resort in Las Vegas to achieve this distinction and one of only nine in North America. They also received the Mobil Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond awards. The 2009 Michelin Guide Las Vegas will be presented to the public this same afternoon in a ceremony held at the Wynn Las Vegas in where Jean-Luc Naret, worldwide director of the guides, will announce the star winners for Las Vegas and Los Angeles as well as the new additions to the Michelin Guide.
