The city of Las Vegas will play host to some of the biggest MMA stars on Super Bowl Weekend, as the UFC delivers a super night of fights with UFC 126: Silva vs. Belfort, a tripleheader of explosive fights scheduled for February 5th at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
The Mixed Martial Arts event presented by Bud Light will be headlined by a UFC middleweight title match presenting the current champ, Anderson “The Spider†Silva vs. Vitor “The Phenom†Belfort.
Considered one the most gifted and dominating fighter in UFC history, Brazilian fighter Anderson Silva (27-4) has a record of 13-fight vi9ctories inside the Octagon that includes seven middleweight title defenses (another record). With victories over Rich Franklin (twice), Chris Leben, Nate Marquardt, Thales Leites, and Forrest Griffin, Silva is now preparing for perhaps the hardest opponent in his career when faces countryman Vitor Belfort.
A veteran of the early days of the UFC, Belfort (19-8) counts with an amazing record of victories in the UFC Octagon, including knockout victories over Tank Abbott and Wanderlei Silva. In 2004, he stopped Randy Couture to win the UFC light heavyweight title, and after a few years away from the Octagon, he returned in 2009 with a stunning first round knockout vs. Rich Franklin.
Also on the main card is an exciting clash featuring former world champions Forrest Griffin (17-6) and Rich “Ace†Franklin (28-5, 1 NC) in a bout that has major title implications in the 205-pound weight class. Rounding up the Main Card are Jon “Bones†Jones (11-1) vs. Ryan “Darth†Bader (13-0) and Miguel Torres vs. Antonio Banuelos.

“UFC fans expect big things from us every year for our Super Bowl weekend show, and this year could be our biggest ever. Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort is a fight fan’s dream match. It’s a fight people have wanted for years. Don’t blink because both of these guys have dynamite in their hands and can end the night quickly and in very exciting fashion. Plus, I can’t wait to see Forrest Griffin and Rich Franklin mix it up; they’re two former champions that are known for being in the middle of instant classics. And then we have the next wave of stars in the Jon Jones vs. Ryan Bader fight. Both of these guys are the future of our sport and possess unlimited talent. It’s impossible to pick a winner here.†UFC President Dana White said.
