- 9-19-2007
Playing poker is
as old a tradition as the
Experts agree that Texas Hold'em poker players should play with no more than 1% to 2% of their bankroll at any given time, so as to minimize the risk to the proportion of their bankroll that is not in play at any given time. By withholding a large portion of the bankroll, the player can avoid going bust and doing anything that is strategically unsound, such as going all in on a weak hand and then getting called out for it. Should the player suffer from a losing streak, it is required that they reduce the amount of their wager in accordance with their rapidly shrinking bankroll. If the bankroll is $200 then the player should be wagering with $2-$4 per hand. This simple method of keeping track of the player's ability to effectively wager by the amounts available in the player's bankroll is actually one of the oldest and most reliable methods of determining the players limit and has been in use since the early days of the game.
Even in the modern day, some skills and techniques remain the same. Keeping your limits in proper relation to your bankroll is one of the oldest and most effective techniques in the game of poker and can save the player a tremendous amount of hassle and difficulty in the long-term.
