Las Vegas Sportsbooks Enter the High-Tech World with Wireless Betting
Many Las Vegas Sportsbooks, like the one at the M Resort, have recently adopted a new technology which allows bettors to place wagers from inside the casino on a handheld device similar to an iPhone. Both the Las Vegas casinos and the bettors are benefiting from the new devices, which allow wagering while the game is in progress.
This new technology, created by Cantor Gaming, for the first time allows gamblers to place wagers on sporting events like football, baseball, basketball, tennis matches and horse races from anywhere inside the casino. Other casino games are also available on these devices, such as blackjack and baccarat.
Having the device right in their hands, while they are watching the game permits gamblers to place wagers on how certain events will transpire. If they are watching a Monday Night Football game and a team is setting up for a field goal, the gambler can wager on the outcome of the kick.
“All of a sudden, these same people who were betting once or twice a game at the beginning of a sporting event can place wagers every minute if they want,†says Anthony A. Marnell III, CEO of the M Resort Spa Casino. “Having this technology changes the entire equation for everyone involved.â€Â
The devices, called eDecks can be credited the same way that regular bets are placed-with cash at the windows. The electronic credits are then stored on the casino servers which transmit the balance to the eDeck.
Other Las Vegas casinos to have adopted the new wireless devices include The Venetian and The Palazzo.
