Las Vegas and Hollywood

The relationship between Hollywood and Las Vegas goes back many decades, as Las Vegas has always been accommodating to Hollywood in their desires to shoot films on location in the city, and Hollywood has always returned the favor by putting Las Vegas securely in the sights of many feature films. In fact, many films feature a Las Vegas setting, which provides a tremendous amount of exposure and advertisement for the area and proprietors and establishments that are located in Las Vegas. This is a healthy and win-win situation and the relationship works for the best of both Hollywood and Las Vegas in the long run, as every time Las Vegas accommodates Hollywood by shutting down the Las Vegas strip to shoot a film scene on location, the city receives exposure in a blockbuster movie for free. The list of movies that have been shot in Las Vegas and feature Las Vegas is nearly endless and continues to grow as every successive generation services their fascination with the Las Vegas area in the form of media and other entertainment.

Long before Elvis Presley ever became famous for maintaining a Las Vegas routine, the area was already widely regarded as a Hollywood friendly spot for the entertainment world social elite such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and the rest of the Rat Pack as well as all manner of other up-and-coming stars of Hollywood's golden era. Stars came to Las Vegas to rub elbows and mingle with the regular folks on a regular basis. Many experts tend to think that this location provided a setting for stars to interact with individuals of similar wealth and backgrounds, as many highrollers and VIPs in the Las Vegas area were known to have associated with many of the Hollywood stars of the day. While many historians would draw links between Frank Sinatra, the Rat Pack and all manner of other celebrities to organized crime and the mob, for the most part America had an acceptant view and allowed this otherwise discouraged type of behavior in their celebrities that they worshipped and emulated.

Eventually, Las Vegas and Hollywood would become linked in their efforts to make movies and promote films that feature Las Vegas and the Las Vegas strip prominently. Movies like Oceans 11, Con Air and a growing list of other films have taken advantage of this warm and friendly relationship between the two cities over the years.
