Lake Tahoe 2022 - looks pretty good, right?
Nevada Lt. Governor Briank Krolicki announced last week that officials from Nevada and California will be joining forces in an effort to bring the 2022 Winter Olympics to Lake Tahoe.
Lake Tahoe was the host of the 1960 Winter Olympics, and recently western North America has been no stranger to hosting the Games, with Salt Lake City doing the honors in 2002 and Vancouver hosting the 2010 Olympics, respectively.
While 2022 may seem like a long way off, the Olympic bidding process can take several years, and includes planning proposals and generating support from the U.S. Olympic Committee. A final vote by the International Olympic Committee regarding the 2022 Games is likely to occur in 2015.
Thus, the announcement for a planned bid is just the first step in what is a grueling process towards hosting the Winter Games. That being said, a Reno-Tahoe Winter Games bid is sure to generate excitement - and, let's face it, controversy regarding budget proposals - in the Las Vegas area over the next several years.
