Kentucky online gambling domain seizure continues

  • 10-7-2008

An important online gaming news site reported that UltimateBet.com, CakePoker.com and DoylesRoom.com are some of the online poker room domains that had been seized by the commonwealth of Kentucky on yesterday night after the hosting company, GoDaddy.com, decided to pass on several domain registries to the commonwealth. According to the news release, the hosting company said that they have decided to cooperate with the commonwealth by turning over the domains currently owned by several online poker rooms and gambling companies yesterday after 5:00 pm.

Judge Thomas Wingate of the Franklin Circuit Courtroom said today that until he finalizes his deliberation, the commonwealth of Kentucky must leave all online poker and casino sites right as they are operating now, which means that the commonwealth can’t shut down any of the GoDaddy registered sites until the Judge gives this final word on next Wednesday. But even when the recent domain seizures have caused general concern among the online poker community, the gaming industry didn’t give up in its effort to clarify this issue and expose their arguments to convince the judge that a domain name could not be considered "property" as the commonwealth of Kentucky claims.

Now the online gaming community will have to wait another week to see what’s going to happen with the 141 domains targeted by Kentucky’s Gov. Steve Beshear, and until then, all sites will remain cautious but operating as usual.
