Ivey Deathmath
- 2-20-2008
Last night
I was on Full
Tilt Poker and saw that Phil Ivey was playing. He has a spot reserved at a $500/$1000 NL
Hold'em heads up table named Ivey Deathmatch.ÂÂ
When I started to watch there was about $500K on the table. Phil's opponent was seda1. The chat box was going crazy, as it always
does when a big name poker pro is playing. All
the observers were trying to figure out who seda1 was. Nobody seemed to know if it was another
famous professional or not. ÂÂ
I will describe the biggest pot I saw, which turned out to be worth $384,951. Seda1 was on the button and raised to $3k. Phil then re raised from the big blind to $9k and was called. The flop was 6s 8d Jd. Phil bet $14k and seda1 called. The turn brought the 3c and again Phil led out, this time for $39k. Seda1 thought for a moment and raised it to $163K. Phil then went all in and was called by seda1 for his (or maybe her) last $6,475.75. Phil showed AA and seda1 one showed a suited J7 of hearts. The river was the 9c. Phil's AA held up and he took the $384,951 pot.
Phil played the hand straightforwardly. Whatever seda1 was thinking was obviously wrong. Phil re raised pre flop and led with solid bets on the flop and turn. How nice it must be to have somebody come over the top of you for $163k when you have them dominated. Nice hand Phil.
