Harrah's Entertainment named official sponsor of the World Wildlife Fund's Earth Hour in Las Vegas

Las Vegas hotel and casino operator, Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. is proud to inform that it will be the official Las Vegas sponsor of the World Wildlife Fund's Earth Hour on March 28th at 8:30 p.m. when for the first time in history, the Las Vegas Strip will turn off its lights for one hour. Harrah's Entertainment's properties, including Caesars Palace, Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, Flamingo Las Vegas, Bally's Hotel and Casino, Rio All Suites Hotel & Casino, Harrah's Las Vegas, Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino, and Bill's Gamblin' Hall and Saloon will turn off all unneeded lights to join this effort and raise awareness about the effects of climate change. Several other hotels in Las Vegas, Government agencies, businesses and residents of communities throughout the Valley will join this celebration.

"Earth Hour is an important demonstration to the world that Harrah's is serious about climate change. We've won numerous awards for the many environmentally sustainable projects implemented across our portfolio of resorts. We stand alone in our industry as the only company to win an EPA Environmental Quality Award and the only gaming company to be named to the Dow Jones Global Sustainability Index and committed to the EPA's Climate Leaders program. What's particularly exciting to me is the extent to which this has been a bottom-up effort. Our employees come up with new ideas to reduce our environmental footprint all the time. What we keep hearing is how much fun they have working with their colleagues to implement these on-going initiatives." said Gary Loveman, chairman, CEO and president of Harrah's Entertainment.

All other properties owned or operated by Harrah's Entertainment in the U.S will join this environmental effort. In the past five years, Harrah’s has implemented a series of measures to reduce the energy consumption and reduce carbon dioxide emissions without compromising its efficiency. Some of the changes introduced in its properties include a redesigned laundry facility in Las Vegas that saves 75 million gallons of water every year, the replacement of thousand of incandescent light bulbs with energy efficient lighting, the installation of modern and efficient equipment including water filtration systems in several restaurants that eliminate the need for plastic water bottles and recovery units used to recycle waste heat and use it for heating water for guest and other uses.
