- 9-26-2008
TV Network, GSN has announced that its poker programming will be moved from Monday to Sunday starting this weekend. GSN poker show “High Stakes Poker†Season VI will now be aired on Sundays; in addition, FSN will also air the World Poker Tour Season VI on Sunday nights on Fox Sports, an action that many people consider a war between GSN and FSN to see who gets the most poker viewers and the biggest rankings.
“We think poker on Sunday night is a great way for viewers to end their weekend and begin their week. With High Stakes Poker and World Poker Tour, we’re proud to have the best poker in the world and we’re looking forward to establishing Sunday night on GSN as the home of poker on television.†stated GSN Vice President of Programming Kevin Belinkoff on a press released distributed yesterday.
GSN decided not to renew its contract with the WPT to air the seventh season of the WPT, a decision that took the World Poker Tour to sign a partnership with Fox Sports Net. WPT Season VI will debut on Sunday nights at 8:00 pm, while the “High Stakes Poker†will be reschedule also on Sundays at 7:00 pm ET.
“High Stakes Poker†has been recorded in a series of locations including the famous Las Vegas Casinos at the Golden Nugget Hotel and the Palms Resort and Casino. The show is hosted by A. J. Benza and Gabe Kaplan and has featured numerous pros including PokerStars sponsored pro Daniel Negreanu, Sammy Farha, Brad Booth, Gus Hansen, Antonio Esfandiari, Jamie Gold, and legendary poker player Doyle Brunson.
World Poker Tour Season VI will feature the best moments in the WPT including Kevin Saul’s victory over Mike Matusow during the heads up at the Bellagio Cup III, Dan Harrington triumph over David Pham at the Legends of Poker tournament, as well as footage from several WPT events.
