Golf player and online poker pro Dusty Schmidt announces Million Dollar Challenge

  • 4-18-2009
Poker champ and golf prodigy Dusty Schmidt is announcing a $1 million challenge to prove all golf and poker pros that he is the best combination of golfer and poker player in the world. The Portland resident formally announced the 10thGreen.com Million Dollar Challenge last Friday, saying that the challenge is open to anyone who dares to accept it. The 27 year old Schmidt broke many of Tiger Woods' records as a junior player in Southern California, establishing himself as one of the most promising young professional golf players in the world before suffering a sudden heart attack at age 23. Since then, Schmidt has dedicated his time to online poker, winning over $3 million in two years. He still plays golf in his free time, maintaining a plus-2.9 index.

"I'm not boastful by nature. This just seemed like a really fun event that could grow into something big. Golf and poker are global games, and I'll be willing to take on anyone, anywhere." Schmidt said.

The 10thGreen.com Million Dollar Challenge will take place at a time and place determined by both parts. The challenge is divided in 4 days, with two days of golf and two days of poker action. On day 1 and 2, he and his challenger will play 36 holes consisting of 4 separate 9-hole matches for $50,000 each, with the overall winner of a running 72-hole match getting an extra $100,000. On Day 3 and 4, Schmidt and his challenger will engage in 5 heads-up poker matches every day for $50,000 each.

The event is sponsored by 10thGreen.com, a social network and instructional golf site owned by Schmidt and golfer Casey Martin. Potential challengers can visit 10thGreen.com for more information.
