Golden Boy Promotions confirms Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Michael Katsidis fight in Las Vegas

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has recently confirmed that Mexican Lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez, will defend his WBO belt against Australian boxer and current WBO interim lightweight champion  Michael Katsidis in a fight scheduled to take place on November 27th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Marquez (51-5-1, 37 Kos), won a rematch with Juan Diaz on July 31st in his first fight since losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year. Marquez, who recently failed to materialize a third fight vs. Manny Pacquiao, accepted the therms to a mandatory title defense against Katsidis (27-2, 22 Kos).

The 30 year old Australian boxer won the vacant WBO interim lightweight title in a fight held at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada, as part of the undercard to the Number One/Numero Uno event featuring the returning Floyd Mayweather, Jr. against Juan Manuel Márquez.

More recently, Katsidis achieved important title defense against then-undefeated lightweight boxer Kevin Mitchell, knocking the Brit in the third round. Several months after the Mitchell bout, the WBO mandated that Juan Manuel Márquez must face Katsidis for the 'full' version of the world lightweight title.

"It's just a matter of getting it papered up. It's a great challenge for Juan, and a very interesting fight for fans." commented Schaefer.

More information, including the official fight card, will be announced in the coming weeks.
