Country Superstar Garth Brooks announced today that he is coming out of retirement, and most likely heading to Las Vegas for an extended engagement. In a press conference early this morning at The Grand Ole Opry House, Brooks announced his return to the spotlight after retiring back in 2000. Brooks will hold a second press conference later today in Vegas to announce the possible headlining of shows at Encore/Wynn Theater.
Reports state that Steve Wynn, chairman and CEO of Wynn Resorts, will be on hand at the press conference, scheduled for 4:00 EST at The Encore Theater in Vegas. This announcement could place the country singer in the spot that was once occupied by the late Danny Gans.
Brooks has a history in Vegas dating back to 1998, where his shows were among the fastest-selling tickets ever in Vegas at The Thomas & Mack Center. His four Las Vegas shows sold 72,076 tickets in less than an hour.
Brooks, the top-selling solo artist in U.S. history, decided to retire in 2000 to spend more time with his children and wife Trisha Yearwood, who is also a country star. Brooks, who has sold over 220 million albums worldwide, released his last studio album, "Scarecrow",in 2001 and since then the crooner hasn't released any new material.
“It’s a proud day for me and my family to announce (this news),†Brooks said at the Thursday morning Nashville press conference. “We’re going to take the retirement roof off over our head.â€Â
