Full Tilt Poker Million Dollar Challenge Day 2: Dwan beats Ilari Sahamies
- 11-19-2009
Day Two of the Full Tilt Poker Million Dollar Challenge played out in London, with Tom “durrrr†Dwan scoring his first victory at this event against Ilari “Ziigmund†Sahamies.
Dwan returned to Les Ambassadeurs in Mayfair, London for Day 2 after losing the first Heads Up Match vs. Marcello “luckexpress†Marigliano by a $22,500 margin. The 12 hour duel against Sahamies was entirely Pot Limit Omaha. Dwan, who is more than used to play high stakes Omaha on the online version of the "Durrrr Challenge" on Full Tilt, had no problems taking the lead early. But after several hands, Sahamies put a dent in Dwan’s chip stack after taking two huge pots, and was close to defeat his opponent after the flop came 5-9-3 and "Durrrr" moved all-in holding Q-10-8-5. Sahamies made the call with A-A-6-J. However, a 5 came on the turn, doubling Dwan's chips and keeping the match alive. Dwan was down around $150k near the end of the session, but managed to win a large pot in one of the last hands of the day. After 500 hands and almost 12 hours playing, Dwan found the way to recuperate most of his chips to win Day 2 with a $68,000 advantage over Sahamies.
“It was a tough game, but a great one at the same time. There were some huge pots and in the end it could have gone either way really, but after losing out against Marcello, I’m delighted to have won today and I’m looking forward to taking on Sammy tomorrow. I was a pretty tired after playing 12 hours the night before on FulTilt.com, but I think the fact I was playing Ziigmund and that the challenge is an important one helped me through.†Dwan told Matchroom Sport after the end of the game.
The third challenge will take place today, when Dwan and Sammy "Any Two" George battle in the final and decisive No Limit Hold'em match.
