Plenty of sunshine, a large senior population and a bright economic future are just a few of the reasons Forbes named Las Vegas in their "Top Ten Recession-Proof Cities to Retire In" list. The data gathered from research shows that Vegas will be favorable to retirees in the near future, despite the current state of the U.S. economy.
There were seven statistical elements that classified the cities on the list including Number of Sunny Days, Income for people 65 and over, Median Home Price, Home Price Change '09-'14, Job Growth Forecast '09-'14, Cost of Living and Median Monthly Housing Cost.
Out of the 40 metro cities researched, Vegas ranked the highest in the "Number of Sunny Days" category tying with Phoenix in the top position. This statistic was provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and was an important factor in this list since, according to Forbes, "every retiree should get some sunshine in their golden years".
Sin City came in at 9th place for "Income for People 65 and Older", the number one position went to Washington D.C.(35th place overall). Vegas' lowest ranking category was "Median Monthly Housing Cost", the city came in at number 30 out of the 40 cities.
Topping the list in the number one position was Atlanta, followed by Dallas, Tampa, Houston, St. Louis, Austin, Las Vegas at number 7, then rounding out the list Phoenix, Kansas City and San Antonio.  ÂÂ
