- 2-17-2010
The recently launched North American Poker Tour (NAPT) sponsored by PokerStars.net has announced that it has reached an important agreement with cable sports network ESPN to air 16 hours (16 one-hour episodes) of coverage on ESPN2 starting in April, 2010. TV broadcasts will be hosted by model Joanna Krupa, and produced by 411, the same company behind the production of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) telecast on ESPN.
“We’re very excited to bring the North American Poker Tour to ESPN. Our fans like big names and big stakes the NAPT will have both in excess.†said ESPN’s coordinating producer Jamie Horowitz.
The tour, owned by poker event consultant Global Poker Tours Ltd., was officially announced in January during the annual Caribbean Adventure in Bahamas. The first official stop in the NAPT Calendar will take place at the Venetian Resort and Casino in Las Vegas from February 20th to 24th. The tournament will feature a $5,000 buy-in NAPT Main Event as well as a $25,000 buy-in shootout tournament. The PokerStars NAPT will continue at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. The tournament's Main Event will be held from April 7th to 11th as the kickoff of a brand new poker festival
“Having the North American Poker Tour on ESPN2 is going to take poker on this continent to a different level. With some of the most important gaming venues in the U.S. on board and the reach of ESPN2, the NAPT is set to bring the excitement of world-class poker tournament to millions who love this game as much as I do.†commented Poker Stars Pro Daniel Negreanu.
Global Poker Tours Managing Director Jeffrey Haas says the tour intends to hold five or six events in its first season.Qualifying Satellites to the Venetian and Mohegan Sun tournaments are already running on PokerStars. For more information, visit PokerStars.com.
