Elvis-Themed Cirque du Soleil Show Receives Official Name Today
The new Elvis-inspired Cirque du Soleil show to open at CityCenter's ARIA Hotel and Casino in December has been officially named as of today. The Elvis-themed Las Vegas production will be appropriately titled "Viva Elvis".
This new Vegas show will make it the seventh Cirque show in Sin City. "Viva Elvis" will be featured in a 2,000-seat theater inside the yet-to-open ARIA Las Vegas, which is scheduled to open to the public on December 16th.
This Las Vegas production was created from a partnership between Elvis Presley Enterprises and CKX Inc. and was first announced in 2006. This was the same year that Cirque du Soleil premiered their hit Vegas show, LOVE at The Mirage Las Vegas.
"Created in the image of the king of rock 'n' roll  powerful, sexy, whimsical, truly unique and larger than life  the show highlights an American icon who transformed popular music," said Cirque representatives.
Elvis' first appeared in Vegas in 1956 at The New Frontier Hotel when he was 21 years old, although it wasn't until 1969 that the King made Vegas his home. He appeared at the International for seven years to over 2.5 million people.
Elvis' final Las Vegas appearances were at the Las Vegas Hilton in 1976 for a two-week period, before dying the next year of a heart attack.
