College Football Preview

Spring has come and gone. For most people this simply means that summer time has arrived and trips to the beach, family vacations, and ice cream are inevitable. There are a select group of people however who pay close attention to college football during the next few months. You might be asking why, the college football season starts in September right? The answer is both yes and no.

In the spring college football teams are cleared to have official practice, team meetings, etc. This is a critical time for teams since it sets the tone for the upcoming year. New plays on offense and defense are installed and more importantly, new freshmen get broken in. The high flying five-star recruit is now in camp and competing for time, trying to see if he can move from prospect to stud. Gradually over the rest of the summer the excitement for college football will grow and around July you should start to see previews of each team from the major power conferences. The online sportsbook, Bodoglife.com, has already posted odds for the traditional power teams to win the BCS National Championship. Every college team in America will continue practicing and preparing for a shot at the title game. Each coach and his staff will tell the players what they do now is a foundation for success. Keeping that in mind, unless there is a big injury to a key player, the odds will change only slightly from now until the start of the season.

Here are the odds for the top six teams BodogLife Sportsbook believes has the best chance to win.

USC – 3/1

Florida – 6/1

Georgia – 6/1

OhioState - 6/1

Oklahoma – 6/1

LSU – 12/1

Every team with the best odds to win the title are from traditional power conferences and most of them are in the south. OhioState has been a fixture in the title game the last few years and added super recruit Terelle Pryor who is now in camp and practicing. Most analysts peg the University of Southern California as the team to beat this year with numerous returning starters and stars on both sides of the ball. Florida has Tim Tebow, last year’s Heisman Trophy winner, returning to lead the Gators in the always tough S.E.C. conference. Oklahoma has been in a number of BCS games over the last five years and will be looking to win it all under Bob Stoops, one of the best coaches in the game. Last year’s champion, LSU, will have some potential issues returning to the title game. LSU had to kick its starting quarterback off the team for repeated team infractions and plays in one of the most difficult conferences. Georgia believed it should have been playing in the title game last year instead of LSU and is returning most of its starters this year. Even though their odds are at 6/1 look for them to seriously compete for a chance at the title.
