Cloud Nine attraction damaged and grounded

Cloud Nine attraction, the humongous tethered balloon ride on Las Vegas Strip, has been grounded indefinitely after an unexpected incident last weekend that knocked off several passengers from their feet after a strong wind gust hit and rattled the balloon. All passengers landed safely and only one man injured his knee on the floor and couldn't stop trembling.

A further  inspection inspection made last Monday revealed problems with an aluminum band that protect the gondola from the steel cable. According to inspectors, the band was damaged by the winds, causing the gondola to twist and shake in gusty winds.

County officials in Las Vegas say a tethered balloon attraction on the south end of the Strip won't be allowed to fly again until they certify that all repairs are made. Clark County Development Services Director Ron Lynn said the balloon requires a part from France to be fixed.

The Cloud Nine ride, located across from the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on the south end of the Strip. The balloon, which holds up to 30 passengers, offers a unique ride 500 feet above the ground for a view of the Las Vegas Strip, and then down again.
